Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom... Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance

First Thoughts
Well, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of- Of Triton but I had yet to read of Poseidon. I’ve heard of the books all around other blogs so I knew I had to purchase the first book, so that I could enjoy my ARC.

My Thoughts
First off, you guys should know I just finished Of Poseidon like two minutes ago, literally. And I must say I loved every bit of the book. Omg I’m fangirling so hard right now with my love for this book, and I’m so excited that I can jump right into of Triton. If you guys could see the excitement on my face; and you’re a fan of the series, then you are probably smiling back, and if you’re not a fan of the book than you should get with the program and buy it already; so that we can fangirl together.

Of Poseidon is a story about a girl named Emma, who is just an average high school student. When we first meet Emma she is on vacation with her friend Chloe when she meets a boy named Galen, who just so happens to be the Syrena prince (mermaid/Merman). Upon their first touch both can tell there is an instant connection, but Galen notices that she might be more than the average student.  Now they are both on a journey to discover who Emma really is, and what makes her special.

Characters

Emma- She is a feisty thing. I love her! She isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind, and she doesn’t let the fact that Galen is a royal keep her from putting him in his place. I love the fact that even though she has a temper she also has a sensitive side.

Galen- is my prince, and by my prince, I mean he is mine. I’m so totally in love with him! He is everything I enjoy in my book boyfriends, he’s sensitive, loving, funny, and willing to go against everything he knows for the person he loves.  Plus he is super sexy. I’m pretty sure I read his description multiple times so that I could have the perfect picture in my head. He got a little bossy sometimes, and I wasn’t a fan of that. I just wanted to jump unto the page and tell him to calm down with that “I’m a man macho, I tell you what to do bullshit”.

Rayna- is your royal princess and twin sister of Galen. Her character just all around Badass, I love her!  She not only speaks her mind, she does it with “not a care in the world” of what anyone thinks. Toraf is her “mate” and he is soooo sweet and funny! I could read a book with just their interaction and I’m pretty sure by the end I will have abs from laughing so hard. They also shared one of my favorite scenes from the books, and one of my least favorites. Basically finding out that women can be forced into mating had me gagging a little.

Author
I’m going to give major praise to Anna Banks for pretty much everything about this book!! Firstly, the dialogue between characters is insanely funny. Secondly, the pacing of the story was spot on. I was never once bored, I never had the feeling the story was one big circle, and it didn’t drag on. Thirdly, the world building of-Of Poseidon was Aca-amazing! I l enjoyed the back story and I loved the Greek mythology reference. I hate when I don’t have enough information and have to draw my own conclusion, how there is not enough description and I have to paint my own pictures. Not the case here.

Dislikes
One thing I was really excited for that later disappointed me, was that her best friend was an African American. I got so excited when I read that, being an African American myself we are not really represented that much in YA books so I was leaping with joy with this bit of information. Needless to say my excitement didn’t last long. Also that ending was crazy! I had no idea I was even near the end so when I caught sight of the last sentence I was ready to flip my page and nothing was there. It just ended, abruptly, and I was disappointed. Good thing I already had of triton ready!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, which is evident in my 800 word review (crazy) since they are normally four-five hundred words long.  If you are a fan of laughing out loud, swoon worthy boys  and mermaids, then I recommend Of Poseidon to you!!!!
